Shaws in partnership with the Marie Keating Foundation to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness.
This October, the Marie Keating Foundation and Shaws Department Stores have teamed up for an essential cause—raising awareness for breast cancer. Together, we encourage all women to ‘Be Breast Aware,’ a simple yet vital message that could save lives. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Ireland, excluding non-melanoma skin cancer, and early detection is one of the most effective ways to improve outcomes. Through this collaboration, the focus is on educating women about the importance of regular breast self-examinations and understanding what changes to look out for.
Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters
Breast cancer affects 1 in 7 women during their lifetime, but early diagnosis greatly increases the chances of successful treatment. This is why campaigns like ‘Be Breast Aware’ are crucial. They remind women to take control of their health by regularly checking their breasts, knowing what is normal for their bodies, and identifying any signs that something might be wrong.
Many women avoid or forget about self-checks, either due to fear, lack of knowledge, or a busy lifestyle. However, this habit of regular checking can play a significant role in catching abnormalities early. Early-stage breast cancer can be treated more effectively, with more treatment options available and better survival rates.
What Does It Mean to Be Breast Aware?
Being breast aware means understanding how your breasts normally look and feel, so that any unusual changes are easier to detect. There is no right or wrong way to check your breasts, but the key is to make it part of your regular health routine.
As part of the partnership, Shaws is supporting the Marie Keating Foundation in educating our customers about breast cancer and the importance of regular checks, and how to spot warning signs.

Visit our Lingerie Department in-stores for some free bra fitting advice and services, no appointment necessary.
We will also have The Marie Keating mobile unit visiting our Dungarvan Store on the 9th of October . This will be staffed by a specialist cancer nurse from The Marie Keating Foundation, to offer any support that you might need.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Shaws would like to highlight the work that the Marie Keating Foundation has done in raising awareness, offering support services and cancer prevention information to so many individuals.
Their work has been instrumental in raising awareness about breast cancer in Ireland, and encouraging early detection through education.
